Joel McCarty


Joel McCarty has been involved in real estate investment and asset management since 1980. Mr. McCarty’s experience includes acquisition, disposition, and investment and asset management responsibilities for commercial, multifamily and hospitality properties.

Prior to joining M-M Properties, Joel was Vice President of Berkadia, a joint venture of Berkshire Hathaway and Luecadia National Corporation. At Berkadia, Mr. McCarty led an asset management team responsible for large, high profile and complex properties located across the United States, as well as execution of various acquisition and underwriting opportunities. In addition, Mr. McCarty served as a member of the credit committee.

From 2006 to 2009, Mr. McCarty served as Director of Asset Management for Macfarlan Capital Partners, a private equity real estate acquisition, asset management and development firm. Mr. McCarty directed an asset management team on a $500 million-value-add real estate portfolio in addition to managing other redevelopment opportunities. While at Macfarlan, Mr. McCarty developed an asset management platform which was integral to a $350 million institutional fund raising effort.

From 2000 to 2006, Mr. McCarty was a Senior Asset Manager for Westbrook Partners/Terrabrook. Along with two other Senior Asset Managers, Mr. McCarty successfully led the acquisition, asset management and disposition of an 86 property, $1 billion portfolio of value-add office buildings located in markets across the United States.

From 1990 to 2000, Mr. McCarty served as Director of Real Estate Investment Services for BEI Real Estate Services/AMRESCO. At AMRESCO, Mr. McCarty directed a team of five senior asset managers that had bottom line responsibility for a $1.4 billion portfolio of AMRESCO owned assets as well as third party fee managed real estate assets. In addition, Mr. McCarty was involved in the acquisition of real estate portfolios as well as troubled loan pools.

Mr. McCarty began his real estate career in 1980 with the Swearingen Company in Dallas, Texas, managing and leasing office, retail and industrial properties throughout the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex. In 1985 Mr. McCarty joined a group of his counterparts from Swearingen and became a development partner for DWB Properties, developing, managing, leasing and eventually disposing of office and industrial properties.

Mr. McCarty earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Management from Texas Tech University. Mr. McCarty holds a Texas Real Estate Broker license, the CCIM designation from the CCIM Institute and the CPM designation from the Institute of Real Estate Management.
